ScopedIn Review of P3 Shooting Rest

ScopedIn Review of P3 Shooting Rest and Gun Vise

Sooner or later, there are two items that most shooters are going to want to invest in: a shooting rest, and a gun vise. The rest is used, as the name implies, for bench shooting, to provide a stable and comfortable platform from which to fire a gun. While these are mostly popular with riflemen, handgunners often find them useful as well. The vise is generally used in the shop as a second pair of hands to hold a gun steady while it’s being cleaned or otherwise worked on.

Rests and vises are usually among the larger gun accessories, so if you’re at all cramped for space (and who of us isn’t?), storage of these can be a real issue. Fortunately, a company called CTK Precision of Marion, WI, offers a that does double duty as a rest and vise, and performs admirably at both.

The CTK Precision Ultimate Gun Vise

CTK Precision P3 Ultimate Gun Vise Review

If you clean or tinker with your guns, you’ve undoubtedly struggled to find an effective method to secure your firearms without damaging them.  Back in the day, we had three pieces if 1×12 pine nailed together with a triangular notch to cradle long guns.  The rudimentary system left a little to be desired.  Graduating to a lightweight injection molded plastic system, the pine was quickly tossed on the fire.  The plastic cradle held the rifle for mounting a scope or light cleaning, but once you applied any kind of force to it the flaws of the system became immediately apparent.  Try to lapping 30MM steel rings on your #8 contour 300 Win Mag in AICS stock, the entire assembly buckles under the weight and stress. Enter the CTK Precision P3 Ultimate Gun Vise.

Four Guys Guns Review P3 Ultimate Gun Vise

P3 Ultimate Gun Vise Review

There is a reason I am not an engineer.  Several reasons actually.  We don’t need to get into any details just know that I tend to be an “idea man” while the smarter people actually make it happen.  But close your eyes and dream with me.
I need something to hold my rifle, shotgun and/or handgun.  I just installed new sights or a new optic or scope and I need this thing to whack a gnat in the ass at 300m.  Whatever your particular fantasy involves, I do not need to know the details anymore than you need to know mine. However, a gnats ass is not exactly the easiest thing in the world to hit with all the possible things I do wrong from flinching to jerking or slapping a trigger, oh, and let’s not forget breath control...the list goes on.  How do I get this weapon squared away to take error out of it?"

Glock 20 with KKM Precision Match Grade Barrel

Haus of Guns used our Compact Shooting Rest with Pistol Post Add-On on another review.  This time, they reviewed the Glock 20 with the KKM Precision Match Grade barrel.

As Ebbs mentioned during the review, we recommend that the grip platform on the Compact Shooting Rest be set in a "flat" position.  This will ensure consistency between shots.

For more info on the Compact Shooting Rest, visit the CTK Precision site.

Ruger LCR with Compact Shooting Rest

During this review of the Ruger LCR 38 Special, Haus of Guns uses our Compact Shooting Rest with Pistol Post Add-On.

Our Compact Shooting Rest was designed for shooters with limited bench space.  The Pistol Post Add-On is great if you will be using your Shooting Rest with laser grip pistols or short barrel revolvers, such as this Ruger LCR.

Universal Brass Catcher - ArmsVault

Universal Brass Catcher
by ArmsVault

Semi-automatic guns, whether pistols, rifles or shotguns, are fun and easy to shoot. So fun and easy to shoot, in fact, that one can easily find himself expending multiple boxes of ammunition in a single session. Once the firing is over, though, many of us will want to pick up our spent cases. This is, shall we say, not so fun - ejected brass has an amazing knack for finding its way into the hardest to-reach areas possible. Picking it up usually involves a lot of bending over, crawling around and reaching into dark, dirty corners of the shooting area. Plus, if you're sharing a shooting area with other people, there's always the hassle of your brass getting mixed in with theirs, stepped on, or otherwise hazarded.

Fortunately, a company called CTK Precision offers a brass catcher that is well-designed, sturdy and portable. I had the opportunity to test it with both a rifle and a pistol, and I came away very favorably impressed.

Features of the CTK Brass Catcher

The CTK brass catcher, unlike many other models, is of a stand-alone design. There's no need to strap it to your wrist or somehow attach it to the gun. This alone makes the CTK catcher more convenient and usable than most others.

The first thing you notice about the CTK brass catcher is its generous opening, which offers over 225 square inches of catching space. While this might not seem like a big deal, consider that the larger the catching area is, the further from your gun you can place the catcher and still have it perform effectively. This is a brass catcher that won't get in your way while you're shooting.

And yes, that is a left-handed AR-15 in the picture. The brass catcher works from either side!
